Sidewinder Conversions & Mobility

Solutions

The conversion, the controls, and the parts you never see.

Getting in is one question. Driving it is another. Here is everything we build and everything we fit.

01 · Mobility conversions

The conversion is ours.
That changes everything after the sale.

The Sidewinder RAV is built in our own Chilliwack shop, not shipped in by a dealer. So the warranty is ours to honour.

Build time depends on the van and what goes into it. Ask us for a date on yours.

Why in-house matters

  • It can be changed for youWhere the chair locks down, where the seats sit, how the floor is laid out. Decided here.
  • It comes back hereWork goes to the technicians who built it, not a service desk phoning a factory.

Checkable, not claimed

  • The only wheelchair accessible vehicle dealer in BC that is also a Transport Canada authorized vehicle manufacturer
  • Transport Canada National Safety Mark L43, authorized to build disabled access vehicles
  • NMEDA QAP accredited, including Structural Vehicle Modifier

Rear entryA ramp comes out of the back of the van and the chair travels up the centre of a lowered channel. Parking needs clear space behind rather than beside, which is why it suits a driveway better than a kerb.

Rear entry

Sidewinder Chrysler RAV

Designed and built by us, in Chilliwack

Floor dropped 10 inches so you ride in the chair. Manual ramp out of the back doors, 1,200 lb.

  • Built and warrantied in-house
  • Manual ramp, no power system
  • No side clearance needed

Side entryA ramp folds out of the passenger side onto the kerb. The floor is lowered between the front and rear wheels, so the chair rolls in level and can sit in either front position, including behind the wheel.

Side entry

VMI Northstar

Fitted and serviced by us

Northstar in-floor side-entry conversions. The ramp slides out of the side door, and the van kneels at the kerb to flatten it.

  • Power or manual in-floor ramp
  • Drive from your chair
  • Ride up front, not behind

LiftA powered platform raises the chair into a full size van at floor height. No ramp angle at all, which is what makes it the answer for a heavy power chair or a taller vehicle.

Lifts and custom floor plans

Full size & built to order

Laid out with you before anything is cut

Room to stand up inside, a powered lift instead of a ramp, space for a chair plus cargo.

02 · Hand controls

Keep driving.
On your terms.

A conversion gets you into the vehicle. Hand controls put you back behind the wheel.

They work the gas and the brake with your hands instead of your feet. We're an authorized Sure Grip dealer and we fit them to your reach and your grip.

You may not need a van at all

Not everyone needs a van. An ordinary car will often take:

  • Sure Grip hand controls
  • A Bruno stowage lift that loads the chair or scooter for you

What else fits depends on the car.

Not every answer is a van. Some leave our lot with controls instead of a conversion.

03 · Wheelchair & scooter lifts

When the chair travels
and you don't roll on.

Not everybody stays in their chair for the drive. If you transfer to a seat, the question is how the chair gets in.

Stowage lift

Loads the empty chair or scooter into the back at the touch of a button.

Platform lift

Raises the chair with you still in it, into a full-size van.

  • Bruno

    Wheelchair and scooter stowage lifts

  • Ricon

    Mobility lifts and equipment

  • Mobility Networks

    Folding platform lifts

  • Installed and serviced in our own shop.

Capacity decides it: a power chair can weigh more than twice what a manual one does. Tell us the make, model and weight of yours and we'll confirm what is rated for it.

04 · Restraints & tiedowns

The part nobody looks at.
The part that matters most.

Securement holds the chair, and the person in it, still if the van has to stop hard. A wheelchair is not a vehicle seat.

Q'Straint

Wheelchair and occupant restraint systems

Sure-Lok

Manual tiedowns we use in every Sidewinder RAV build

EZ Lock

Automatic docking securement

Tiedowns

What it is
Straps that clip to the chair frame and anchor it to the floor.
Fits
Almost any chair, including one you have not bought yet.
Who fastens it
Somebody does, every single trip.

Docking system

What it is
A plate in the floor that locks onto a bracket fitted to your chair.
Fits
Your chair only, once the bracket is on it.
Who fastens it
Nobody. You roll in and it grabs.

Holding the chair down and holding the person in are two different systems. Every Sidewinder RAV leaves with Sure-Lok manual tiedowns and a Q'Straint occupied wheelchair restraint system.

05 · Commercial & fleet

Fleets that have to
work on Monday.

A taxi, a care fleet or a school route runs all day, on a schedule that can't absorb a vehicle being off the road.

We build those to order on full-size vans. Order more than one and they come to the same layout, so a driver trained on one is trained on all of them. Transport Canada authorizes us both under and over 4,536 kg, so a fleet build isn't limited to minivan platforms.

  • Accessible taxis

Loading a chair over and over, in the rain. Securement has to work for one driver alone.

  • Care & community fleets

Many chairs, many drivers. Build every van alike and the training carries over.

  • School & para-transit

Student transport, where securement and paperwork both stand up to inspection.

Fleet enquiries go to our production manager, not a general inbox. adam@sidewinderconversions.com or (604) 792-2082, Mon – Fri 8:30am – 4:30pm.

Contact

Talk to someone who knows these vans.

Come by the shop and bring your chair, or just start with a phone call. Either way you'll be talking to someone who can answer the question instead of taking a message.

A person here reads every one of these. We reply within one business day, Monday to Friday.
